ISIMSIZ

On April 10, 2026, we received some wonderful news: soon another book by Engin — a collection of his 22 short stories — will be released into the hands of readers. As always, Engin chose the title of one of his stories as the title of the collection. This time, it was the story titled “Isimsiz”Anonymous, Nameless, Without a Name. For the title of the story, I chose Without a Name, although Nameless also fits the collection very well.

On the back cover, the following description was written:

In Engin Akyürek’s stories, life is often hidden within small moments: in the loyalty of a dog, in a friend’s unfinished sentence, on the yellowed pages of a letter, or in the long conversations a person has with themselves… “Nameless” is a collection of stories revealing the great emotions concealed within those little moments. Unforgettable memories, unfinished loves, losses, friendships, and that pure bond with animals… Each story opens a different door into the human soul. Some stories have titles; others are remembered only through the feeling they leave behind. And the deepest ones most often remain nameless.

Some creatures do not understand that they have been abandoned. They simply wait. Even though they know someone is driving away, they place their front paws on the back of the truck and hope that a hand will help them.

Can one live without a name? Or does giving someone a name truly mean claiming ownership of them? Perhaps all stories are what we are unable to say after those who left us somewhere and walked away.

This book is the story of those who search for a place for themselves in a life to which they cannot belong; of forgotten names and confessions that were never spoken.

“Every person carries a story within themselves. Some have no name.”

A few days later, we learned more details, including the list of stories. All of the stories had previously appeared in the magazine Kafasına Göre, in which Engin regularly publishes. Therefore, in the complete list of stories, I marked with the letter (I) those included in the collection. Inside the book, there is also a short biographical note:

Engin Akyürek was born in 1981 in Ankara. He graduated from the Faculty of Language, History and Geography at Ankara University with a degree in history. Since 2004, he has appeared in numerous television series and feature films; since beginning his writing journey, he has also continued to express himself through short stories published in the magazine Kafasına Göre. Two of his short story collections have previously been published: Sessizlik (Silence) and Zamansız (Timeless).
